During the lockdown or MCO (Movement Control Order) in Malaysia I finally found time to go through the many photos taken during our time in Malaysia and especially Borneo. Love the beautiful flowers like the 'Heliconia'. This painting is inspired by the Heliconia Chartacea which is also been called 'Pink Lady'. Painted with Amsterdam and Expert acrylics from Royal Talens and varnished with Liquitex on stretched canvas, size 60 x 90 cm.
Last year, in the memories series, i have painted the paradise flowers here in Borneo and loved painting them. So I wanted to do them again in a different composition and on a different medium. During the lockdown I finally found time to go through old photos taken during our time in Malaysia and especially Borneo. Love its beautiful flora and fauna. We spotted pitcher plants many times far away from Kota Kinabalu till a friend pointed them out to me during one of our walks in Bukit Padang. When hiking on the trails you can see them growing there and isn’t it great people just look and pass by without taking them. Mixed media on canvas 100 cm x 100 cm, using acrylic paint and inks from Royal Talens and Liquitex varnish.

We made many road trips and always would make a stop at Nabalu where you can see some orchids and can ga e a great view on the mountain. There are so many orchids here in Sabah (Borneo, East Malaysia) and they come in so many different shapes and sizes. This is my interpretation made with acrylics on 90 x 70 cm stretched canvas. We spotted this Tarsier a while back while visiting Danum Valley. It looked so surprised to see us but so where we! We spotted these paradise flowers everywhere in gardens and in the wild when we came to Borneo. We thought it was very special as we only seen them sometimes in flower shops in the Netherlands for a big price. Love the beautiful flowers like this (Pelican) flower: a Dutchman's Pipe flower - in this case the Grand Dutchman's pipe flower (Aristolochia grandiflora). I found them at the Agricultural park in Tenom, introduced and come from South/Central America. Mixed media on cotton mounted on plywood 70 cm x 90 cm, using acrylic paint, inks and varnish from Royal Talens.
