During the lockdown or MCO (Movement Control Order) in Malaysia I finally found time to go through the many photos taken during our time in Malaysia and especially Borneo. Love the beautiful flowers like the 'Heliconia'. Finding pictures with stunning flora and fauna made me start the series called 'Memories'. Mixed media on acrylic paper mounted on plywood in aluminium frame approx 50 cm x 58 cm, textured and using acrylic paint & inks from Royal Talens and varnish from Liquitex.
During the lockdown (MCO) in Malaysia I finally found time to go through the many photos taken during our time in Malaysia and especially Borneo. Love the trails around Mount Kinabalu and the trail with the pitcher plants in Messilau. Finding pictures with stunning flora and fauna made me start a series called 'Memories'. Mixed media on acrylic paper mounted on plywood in aluminium frame approx 50 cm x 70 cm, textured and using acrylic paint & inks from Royal Talens and varnish from Liquitex.
Worked on this for a few months using old newspapers and other recycling stuff. Inspired on a Black Boxfish (Ostracion Meleagris). Baia is apron 31 cm high (including pedestal) and 46 cm long. Painted with acrylics and glossy varnish (brand: Amsterdam from Royal Talens).
Budge is inspired on the Hornbills living in Borneo and made from old newspapers, paper pulp and recycling materials. Budge is 52 cm tall (full height including pedestal). Painted with Amsterdam acrylics and varnish from Royal Talens.
Sprickle is inspired on a blow fish and his colors are from a Mandarin fish I saw on one of our great dives here in Borneo. Underwater creatures keep amazing me with there beauty! Sprickle is approximate 23 cm big and made from old newspapers and paper pulp. And painted and varnished with Amsterdam acrylics from Royal Talens.
Started this painting last year but finally found the time to finish, varnish and frame it. Happy with the frame as it still shows the sides of the painting. Painted on cotton cloth on wood with acrylics and inks from Amsterdam by Royal Talens. The painting is 30 cm x 42 cm WITHOUT the wooden frame.
Very happy how this one turned out. Wasn't easy to make the wings but finally found some pieces of iron wire and used old newspapers to cover them. Furthermore used acrylic paper for the tail and a piece of (coral)stone that I found on one of the beaches in Sabah.
This toby is inspired by a Canthigaster Papua (False-eye Toby). Made this in 2013 from paper and recycled materials. But saw it back not long ago when it was falling down from the cabinet of the owners. Repaired the pedestal and returned to his home.
Malaysian Buffalo painted on acrylic paper and framed behind anti-reflective glass. Size: 30 x 50 cm.
