This sculpture is made from old news papers and card board. It's inspired by all the underwater creators I have seen during my diving trips here in Sabah. The pattern is loosely inspired on a Mandarin fish. But as this is a much bigger fish (it is approximate 35 cm high and 60 cm long) I thought i would call in Orange; which is Jingga in the Malaysian language. Painted and varnished with Amsterdam / Expert acrylics and varnish from Royal Talens
This torso is standing 55 cm tall. The pattern is inspired on the traditional ladies dress in Sabah. It took me a long time to complete this sculpture made from paper and recycling different pieces: some plastic (for bas structure), stones (for weight and balance) and some 50 ringgit cent coins for the top belt; called a himpogot (coin belt) and the bottom one is painted and represents a tangkong (a very heavy brass ring belt) which are a sign of the wearer's wealth. Painted and varnished with Amsterdam / Expert acrylics and varnish from Royal Talens
This torso is standing 68 cm tall. The pattern is inspired on antique beaded Dayak Iban wedding skirt I once saw. It took me a long time to complete this sculpture made from paper and recycling different pieces of plastic (for bas structure) and stones (for weight and lance). Painted and varnished with Amsterdam Expert acrylics from Royal Talens.
Just created another cat. How a love cats (and tigers, and anything wild or domestic in this category). Her tail is pointing up almost 80 cm into the sky while the pattern is partly inspired on an Art-Deco dress I saw on display in a museum. Painted and varnished with Amsterdam acrylics from Royal Talens.
During the lockdown or MCO (Movement Control Order) in Malaysia I finally found time to go through the many photos taken during our time in Malaysia and especially Borneo. Love the beautiful flowers like the 'Heliconia'. This painting is inspired by the Heliconia Chartacea which is also been called 'Pink Lady'. Painted with Amsterdam and Expert acrylics from Royal Talens and varnished with Liquitex on stretched canvas, size 60 x 90 cm.
Last year, in the memories series, i have painted the paradise flowers here in Borneo and loved painting them. So I wanted to do them again in a different composition and on a different medium. Painted with Amsterdam and Expert acrylics from Royal Talens and varnished with Liquitex on stretched canvas 90 x 70 cm.
During the lockdown I finally found time to go through old photos taken during our time in Malaysia and especially Borneo. Love its beautiful flora and fauna. We spotted pitcher plants many times far away from Kota Kinabalu till a friend pointed them out to me during one of our walks in Bukit Padang. When hiking on the trails you can see them growing there and isn’t it great people just look and pass by without taking them. Mixed media on canvas 100 cm x 100 cm, using acrylic paint and inks from Royal Talens and Liquitex varnish.
This painting is inspired by a picture of a fish mentioned in a cm book with all kind of reef fish. The name of the fish is double ear goatfish. Painted with acrylics and varnished (brand: Amsterdam by Royal Talens) on canvas 30 cm x 40 cm.
During the lockdown I finally found time to go through old photos taken during our time in Malaysia and especially Borneo. Love its beautiful flora and fauna. We made many road trips and always would make a stop at Nabalu where you can see some orchids and can ga e a great view on the mountain. There are so many orchids here in Sabah (Borneo, East Malaysia) and they come in so many different shapes and sizes. This is my interpretation made with acrylics on 90 x 70 cm stretched canvas. Painted with a Amsterdam and Expert acrylics from Royal Talens and with liquitex varnish.
